I spotted my 'Spruce' design on the front page of Minted today! Anyone need an idea for Mother's Day??
Font Friday
Since last week’s font was a little pricey, I thought I’d jump to the other end of the spectrum and feature a free font. F-R-E-E. There are so many free fonts available, and while not all of them are worth downloading, often there are some gems out there that can be yours with the click of a mouse. A font that caught my eye recently is called Banda, from the Type Depot. It is a 'semi-serif' (I don't know why, but I like that term) and comes in 7 weights plus italics. Only the regular is free, but it's great to try and see if you might make use of the others.
Download it for FREE here.
Like I mentioned last week, you can check out these lovely ladies and their Font Friday pick (#fontfriday on Twitter): Kerry from Super Swoon, Jenna from Little Bit Heart, Lauren from Lauren Elise Crafted, Steph from Bubblerock, Jenny from Hank + Hunt, Jen from Blush Printables and Alexandra from The Aerialist Press.
This week we are doing a little contest to create badges for our blogs... here are my two ideas:
10 years
Let me preface this story by saying that we were 18, not the most mature and obviously needed to create our own entertainment... Back in high school, after having just begun dating my now husband, my friends put together a poll on what time he would finally kiss me for the first time. I think circumstances prevented it from happening prior to this night, and even though we were hanging out with a group, everyone was so sure that he would make his move that they made a game out of it. I still have a torn out piece of notebook paper that has big lips drawn on it and lists everyone's name and their chosen time. Again, maturity levels prevented this from being a secret all night and he figured it out and so, right before he kissed me he said "who has 11:57?" :) So smooth for a high schooler. It's a wonder I didn't up and marry him right then.
That was 10 years ago. We dated that summer and even though we were going off to seperate colleges, we decided to not break-up and 'just see what happens'. Now, we are about to celebrate our 2 year wedding anniversary but we are still celebrating this day because, well, 10 years is a pretty big deal. (And by celebrate, I mean a little dinner date instead of frozen pizza!) I put together some old photos of us through the years... have we changed much?
We've said that, after this tenth year, we will stop celebrating this day and just celebrate our wedding anniversary, but I have a feeling we will continue to count until forever. It's not a gift giving day or a day with any expectations, it's just fun to say, 'wow - we have been together for x number of years.' And today it's 10!
Font Friday!
Happy Friday! I have a fun new thing happening today. After meeting Kerry Doyle, of Paper Dahlia through Minted, I became a fan of her style blog, Super Swoon. Kerry and a group of font-loving gals (Jenna from Little Bit Heart, Lauren from Lauren Elise Crafted, Steph from Bubblerock, Jenny from Hank + Hunt, Kerry from Super Swoon, Jen from Blush Printables and Alexandra from The Aerialist Press) do a weekly post called Font Friday. I enjoyed it so much that I thought I’d join in on the fun. So from now on, fonts will be getting their own weekly post! I know. Try to contain your excitement.
For my first Font Friday, I thought I’d go with a font I love and have been eyeing for awhile now... Candy Script. With a pretty hefty price tag of $99, this typeface is on the pricier side (and yes, they do get more expensive!) and I haven't shelled out the cash for it...yet! After doing this post, I really want to get my hands on this one.
Candy Script is designed by Alejandro Paul, who also designed so many of my favorite fonts, Burgues Script, Business Penmanship, Adios, Feel, and the list goes on and on. He is amazing. Clearly.
Here's a little blurb about Candy Script from Veer:
Inspired by Argentina and its culture, Alejandro Paul’s Candy Script captures the country’s spirit. It comes from the tradition of window sign painting, but its thick hand-brushed characters - with alternates for almost every upper and lowercase letter - have a personality all their own. Tons of OpenType alternates included, over 600 characters in all.
You can purchase this font here and if you are interested in reading a little bit more about Alejandro Paul, check out this interview with myfonts.com. Happy Font Friday!
Happy Friday
This weekend we are headed to the Texas Hill Country for our 'Chism Annual Wine Trip' with my brothers-in-law and new sister-in-law. We go to local Texas wineries and... drink wine. It's awesome. This time of year, it is so beautiful. It feels like you are in another state, instead of being hours from home. I love it.This is a little taste of our view this weekend... hope yours is a good one as well!
